Winter by Marissa Meyer

Sorry this review is so late, I've been meaning to review it since it was released but a friend borrowed my copy and I didn't have any notes on it!!

Goodreads book overview: "Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long. Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?"

Likes: I got this book the day it was released having rushed to the store the minuet I had the chance and starting it as soon as i could possibly spare a second, and i must say I was not disappointed!! Overall I found Winter to be a brilliant conclusion to a brilliant series. Like the rest of the series it followed the pattern of having an extra 200-

ish pages more than the previous book allowing for the integration and development of another fairy tale character and her "prince charming" while still following the story lines introduced in each of the previous books weaving each character in to the overall story of Cinder started in the first novel. With great action and great romance leading up to the promised happily ever after everyone would want from a modern fairy tale this book did justice both to the stories its inspiration came from and to the series I have been eagerly following since high school!

Dislikes: *spoilers* to me Cinder's decision to dissolve the Lunar Monarchy felt a little too out of place in a fairy tale and it did not fit in with the rest of the writing. The decision felt as though the author had slipped it in as an easy solution to a lot of questions and it would almost require another entire book to make this a reality. On top of that it gave the ending more of a political, open ended feeling than the true "Happily Ever After" ending one would expect, and while everyone in the story did live happily ever after it leaves the reader with more questions and more thoughts about the Lunar government than about the characters we had grown to love!

All in all I really did love this book and would love to reread the series in the future! If you have any thoughts please feel free to leave a comment, I'd love to hear what you have to say!!
