Axtelera Ray: The Chronicles of Astrone (preview) By M. J. Gallagher and Alroy Jovi

Rise of Astrone (book 1) follows the story of a young street magician named Demi as she is thrust in to another world where mythology, and magic are blended with history and science forming what I believe has the potential to be one of the next great works in YA fiction.

While reading the preview a few thing caught my attention, the first being Demi’s age, which is stated in the preview to be 12. Although I recognize that the main characters of many Children and Ya books start out around age 12, it seemed to be a little young within the context of the story. I have since been informed that they are planning to deal with the issue before book is officially released!

The second being the mention of multiple mythologies. I have noticed in the past, books claiming to blend fantasy and mythology generally focus on the mythology of one only culture, or will occasionally mix two if they are similar enough. Axtelera Ray is different, here they are choosing to include elements from many uniquely individual mythologies. Within the 40 page preview I noticed Hindu, Greek and even Norse. I am very curious to see how this develops within the rest of the novel.

I discovered this preview completely by accident and was immediately intrigued by it. With a writing style reminiscent of series like Percy Jackson or Heroes of Olympus and a story line so amazingly unique this is not a book you’re going to want to miss.
